Captain's message

John Tarn Club Captain 2020

I have been a member of this club for 14 years, serving in a number of roles over
the years, for example JLO, committee member and most recently Vice Captain for
my friend Alan Pearson, however I am extremely proud to be serving the club
this year as its Captain, this is privilege and honour, as is having my friend
Dave James as my Vice Captain.

I am very passionate about Boldon Golf club and i will strive to serve it and its
members, I will also strive to help make Boldon golf club an enjoyable
experience not only for our members but for visitors too. I will work closely
with our chairman Paul Mackings, secretary manager Steve Watkins, head green
keeper Jack Hetherington, Catering manager Stacey Cole-Smith and members of
the committee to help me achieve this.

My aim is to meet and play a round of golf with not only current members but also
new members, i will be looking for spaces on BRS to help me achieve this.

I am committed to help improve Boldon Golf club and my first objective is to supply 2 swing nets which i believe will be a welcome addition, I am hoping club members will approach me with their ideas on what may improve Boldon Golf club, ideas that i may be able to achieve this year or start to plan for the future.

As some people may be aware my chosen charity this year is “ If u care share foundation”

“If U Care Share Foundation is a local charity which focuses on suicide prevention, bereavement support and promoting positive mental health in young people.

The charity was founded following the tragic death of Daniel O’Hare in 2005 who took his own life at the age of 19.

Since it was set up the charity has helped over 1700 people across the region who are at risk of suicide and has worked with over 30,000 young people in schools, football clubs and community groups promoting positive mental health and encouraging young people to speak about their emotions.

Our support is bespoke and provides tangible support to individual people at their darkest time, showing that ‘there is always a way’ and there is always someone to reach out to”

I am also hoping to raise some much needed money (£500) to enable Jack Smiths parents purchase a mobile hoist, Jack is a local young lad, aged 9 years old, he has complex physical health needs and is totally dependent on his parents .. to read Jacks story please follow this

On behalf of the ladies Captain Helen Ross I would like to share the charity she is supporting and fundraising throughout her Captain Year.

The North East Autism Society is the largest specialist provider of whole life support and services for people who are neurologically diverse; namely those with autism, learning difficulties, disabilities and other hidden impairments in the North East.

As an organisation, we realise the importance of learning what each person’s needs
are and provide a personalised approach to their support. To do so we work in partnership to achieve outstanding personalised services for people with autism. Each year we support over 800 children, young people and adults to
achieve their aspirations. We also provide vital support to their immediate and extended families.

Set up in 1980 by a group of parents who wanted better opportunities for their children, the Society has developed a diverse range of services over the years to meet the varying needs of individuals. These include; education, residential
care, short-break services, family support and supported employment.

We work with communities all across the North East, from our County Durham Head office – from Berwick down to Stockton, to fundraise and deliver local services.

My promise is that I will do my very best to fulfill the role as Captain that you have trusted me with.
