    Michael Ford - Captain 2018

bigpicHaving been a member of Boldon Golf Club for over 25 years I consider it to be a great honour to be chosen to represent you and the Club as your Captain for 2018. I would like to pass on my appreciation to Geoff Walsh for his dedicated work and commitment over the last 12 months and for his support and guidance.
The members of Boldon Golf Club should be proud of the progress we have made over the last few years both on and off the course. We have a fantastic Head Green Keeper in Craig Parkinson who continues to transform and improve the course each year and we are making continued inroads into improving the facilities in the clubhouse for both members and guests.
I would like to thank our dedicated and hard working Committee as well as a small group of individuals who continue to spend their own time to do excellent work behind the scenes in order to provide the members with a course and club to be proud of.
We have been fortunate to have our Manager / Secretary, Steve Watkin, in position for most of 2017 and we are now reaping the benefit of his experience and knowledge of the position.
I feel very positive about our Golf Club and people are talking about us for all of the right reasons. Our Gents team will again be competing against the best golfers in the County this season and we will be continuing to hosting a DCGU Order of Merit event where we will see some of the best golfers in the County and beyond tackle our course over 36 holes.
There are other ways you can represent your club in competitive golf even if you do not possess a low handicap. The Rabbits Team play matches on weekends throughout the season at excellent venues across the region and is available for anyone with a handicap of 16 and above. There is also the Vets Section who play matches against local clubs and is available to anyone aged 55 and above. I am keen to support both of these teams which will allow many more members to represent their club.
My nominated charity for 2018 is Prostate Cancer UK, a very worthy cause who provide research and support to sufferers and their families. It should be noted that at present, in the time it takes to play a round of golf, around 5 men die of Prostate Cancer in the UK.
Finally I will make a promise to all of the staff and members of Boldon Golf Club that I will work tirelessly for our club and do my best to ensure that our success story continues for this coming year and beyond.
I hope you have a successful golfing year in 2018

    Mike
