Women's Golf at Boldon Golf Club

Wherever you are in your game, there's a place for you here.

Brand new to golf? Looking to improve? Already a confident player who wants great company on the course? Boldon Golf Club's women's programme has a clear pathway for every stage — welcoming, flexible, and built entirely around you.

And whether you're here for the sport, the fresh air, the friendships, or simply to do something good for your body and mind — you'll find it all here.

A programme built around four values

Welcome — A safe, friendly environment where every woman feels at home from day one.

Support — Encouragement at every level, from your very first swing to competitive play.

Community — Belonging, caring and connecting with women who love the game and the opportunity to keep active, have fun and look after their wellbeing.

Progress — Growing skills and confidence, entirely at your own pace.

Good for your game. Good for you.

Golf is one of the best things you can do for your health — and you don't need to be sporty to start. A typical round involves several miles of walking in fresh air, which supports cardiovascular health, joint mobility and mental wellbeing. The social side — the friendships, the chat, the shared cups of tea — is just as important. Research consistently links regular social activity with better mental health, reduced stress and greater life satisfaction.

At Boldon, we've seen this first hand. Women who joined us with no golf experience at all have reported significant gains in confidence and wellbeing — one group went from rating their confidence at just 1 out of 10 to 8 out of 10 after just eight hours on the course.

Your pathway - whatever stage you are at

· Never played before? Start here.

Our taster sessions are a relaxed, no-pressure two hours where you have a go at golf, meet other women, and enjoy a sociable lunch with existing members. All equipment is provided — you just turn up.

From there, our six-week Get into Golf programme covers everything you need to feel ready and confident on the course, delivered by our female coaches in a friendly, supportive group. Many women tell us the weekly sessions quickly became the highlight of their week — for the golf, yes, but just as much for the company and the feeling of doing something just for themselves.

"It was a fab experience from start to finish. Carolyn was amazing, so clear and patient. The Boldon experience was in a different league!!" — Gill, Get into Golf participant

Finding your feet - keep going with us

Once you're course-ready, every new member is paired with a named buddy — a fellow member who'll help you get your handicap, learn the rules, and grow your confidence round by round.

Our Nine & Wine summer evenings and Sunday Socials in winter pair newer players with more experienced ones for fun, inclusive 9-hole rounds. A gentle walk, fresh air, good company — it's as good for your wellbeing as it is for your handicap.

"From the initial taster through to lessons and the ongoing support once I joined, I have felt thoroughly supported and welcomed. Everyone is friendly and welcoming." — Yvonne, Get into Golf participant

Already playing? There's plenty here for you too

We offer a full and varied competition calendar — weekday and weekend, 9-hole and 18-hole — so there's always a format and a time that works for you. In 2025 we ran 56 competitions and events, with over 215 participant places taken up across the year.

We also compete in the Anderson and Sivewright leagues, host two Open competitions each year, and run skill development coaching sessions in partnership with PGA-certified coaches for members who want to sharpen specific aspects of their game.

"There was no pressure put on me to join the club, but myself and some of the others have since joined. As a new member I have been made very welcome." — Diane, Get into Golf participant

  More than golf

We're a community — and that means life off the course matters too. Our social programme is designed to support connection, fun and wellbeing all year round. Recent events have included yoga sessions, wreath making, curry nights, coffee mornings and Ladies Day. There's always something on, and new women are always welcome.
